Rising Adoption of AI Among Canadian Small Businesses

A recent study by The Harris Poll indicates that AI usage among Canadian small businesses has nearly doubled, increasing from 32% in 2020 to 58% in late 2023. Businesses are leveraging AI for various purposes, including automating repetitive tasks, enhancing sales and marketing decisions, and improving customer service. Notably, 76% of these businesses plan to further increase their AI usage in the coming year.

Unintentional AI Utilization

A study by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) found that 27% of Canadian entrepreneurs are using AI tools without realizing it. When presented with a list of AI-powered tools, the recognition of AI usage among surveyed entrepreneurs increased from 39% to 66%. This suggests that many small businesses are already benefiting from AI, even if they are not consciously aware of it.
